On 11 February we held a parade service and all-age worship cafe styel. The Explorers from the 8th West Wickham Scout Group had prepared the service on the theme of Fairtrade and served us Fairtrade tea and coffee while each table did a Fairtrade quiz, talked about the Bible passage from Matthew (on the feeding of the 5000), coloured in or played a game. We also had our monthly worship group lead our singing and heard the story of Florentina, a banana farmer in Panama whose family have benefitted greatly from becoming part of a Fairtrade cooperative. We are grateful to the Explorers for all the hard work they put in to preparing the service and for coming along to help on the day. Thanks also go to their leaders for helping them to work out what would be good to include. The church was laid out with tables, there was a casual and comfortable atmosphere and all seemed to have enjoyed our time of worship and fellowship together. We have been reminded that the small choices we make - like buying Fairtrade bananas - can help us to connect with and care about our human neighbours far across the world and that it is good to share God's immense love for all as we remember them when we shop.
